Geometry in Motion

Welcome to the website of Evany Fanzeres
Contemporary artist, painter and sculptor, born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The work of Evany Fanzeres incorporates geometry, elements of line and form with strong references to modern architecture.
One of her Tutors was professor Aluísio Carvão, responsible for establishing 'Neoconcretismo' in contemporary Brazilian art.
When Evany was a young art student she stayed in Germany for a period of time and was introduced to Joseph Beuys at his home in Drackeplatz, Düsseldorf Oberkassel - by the German writer Rudolf Caltofen and his wife Delfina. After this stay in Germany Evany also spent time on a practical training course at the former LCC Central School of Arts in London.
Later, back in Rio de Janeiro she continued her studies concentrating on painting, art language and aesthetic theory with Aloysio Carvão, the most important artist of the movement of Neoconcretos in Brazil.
With a grant by the DAAD, Evany went to the Kunstakademie of Düsseldorf, from 1963 to 1965, she enrolled as a pupil of Carl Goetz and attending regularly the lectures given by Joseph Beuys at the Aula of the Academy. She also witnessed the first pronouncements of the Group Fluxus at the Kunstakademie and and was present at the Fluxus/Beuys performances in Kassel and Aachen. Much influenced by Beuys and his notion of concepts, this leads her work from 1967. Her first solo exhibitions were in London, at the House of Brazil and then in Munster, Cologne, Essen and Bonn, all registrered in by the German press. In 1976, a conceptual development of her plastic proposal is reached and is shown in 17 great canvases in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the Volumetrias and Cidadelas sequence, with a preface signed by the art critic Dr. Mario Barata.
Currently Evany Fanzeres has been working and exhibiting in the cities of Düsseldorf, Berlin, Braga and Rio de Janeiro.
Over the years, numerous group exhibitions and biennals in Brazil have included her work. Evany has collected prizes and scholarships and has had her work bought for public and private collections, mainly in Brazil, Germany, Portugal, Holland and in the USA.
The poet and art critic Walmir Ayala, wrote in 1973 for the Jornal do Brasil; We are presented with an artist who transforms the very concept of Nova Figura - "New Figure".

Evany Fanzeres

Since 1973 Evany Fanzeres has been mostly concerned with spatial situations and formal perspective structures, as well as concepts of plasticity. This radical approach was first seen in 1976 at the Galeria Global in São Paulo. An important individual exhibition in 1982 at the Museu de Arte Moderna in Rio de Janeiro was based on the theme of 'geometria em movimento' and spatiality, comprising 17 large canvases. Straight lines were used to build virtual spaces and surfaces in earth colours, introducing a New Visual Dynamic. Art critics described the 1982 Rio exhibition as an original and expressive contribution to international contemporary art.
The work of Evany Fanzeres has significant bibliographic coverage through gallery catalogues and articles by important art critics like Mário Barata, Leonhard Küppers, José-Augusto França, Frederico Morais, Franz Geiseking and Paulo Herkenhoff.
The artist is now working on a new line of paintings, developing the concept of Spatiality and exhibiting for exclusive art circles. Evany's next individual exhibition is now being prepared, with the very essential subject that she is most familiar with - Spatiality
